Acceptable use policy
Last updated October 29, 2026
1. Scope
This policy covers everything you create or ask for in LoreClerk: text you write, instructions you give AI features (premises, chapter briefs, rewrite instructions, prompts), and text the AI features generate for you. It is part of the Terms of service.
Fiction explores dark things, and that’s fine. You may write violence, crime, war, grief and morally complex characters. The limits below are about real people, real harm, and a few kinds of content no story needs.
2. What is not allowed
Sexual content involving minors (CSAM). Any sexual or sexualized depiction of a person under 18, real or fictional, in any form. Never allowed, never generated; we report it to the authorities (NCMEC or the competent national body) and close the account.
Sexually explicit content and non-consensual sexual content. Our AI features don’t produce sexually explicit (pornographic) content, and nothing that depicts sexual violence or non-consensual sex in an explicit or approving way. We chose this conservatively: romance and fade-to-black scenes are fine; explicit scenes you write yourself stay private to your manuscript and may not be shared through LoreClerk’s reader or publishing tools.
Graphic violence and gore for its own sake. Violence that serves a story is allowed; content whose purpose is to glorify real attacks, give instructions for harming people, or depict extreme gore in detail is not. No content that encourages self-harm or suicide.
Hate and harassment. Content that attacks or dehumanizes people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, caste, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or similar traits, or that promotes violent extremism. Characters may hold hateful views; the work may not be a vehicle for them.
Deepfakes and impersonation. Content that presents real, identifiable people (living or recently deceased) in sexual situations, falsely depicts them saying or doing things in a way meant to be believed, or impersonates a real person or organization. Clearly fictional or satirical use of public figures is allowed when no reader could take it as fact.
Copyright and trademark infringement. Uploading or generating substantial copies of someone else’s protected work, or using trademarks to pass off your work as theirs. Fan fiction for your own use and short quotation are fine; you’re responsible for permission before you publish.
Also not allowed: instructions for weapons, drugs or other serious crime; spam, malware or scams; doxxing or sharing other people’s private data; and attempts to break or get around these safeguards.
3. How we moderate
Before an AI feature generates anything, the instruction you typed (premise, brief, rewrite instruction, prompt) is checked by an automated safety service and against our own blocklist, which we update as new abuse patterns appear. Selected passages you ask the AI to rewrite, style rules and planning inputs are checked the same way. Your manuscript as a whole is not scanned, and neither is translating your own text: a translation only re-expresses what you already wrote, so it falls under your responsibility for that text.
Pass: generation runs. Blocked: nothing is generated, no credits are charged, and you see which guideline it ran into. Held for review: nothing is generated yet; try again later or rephrase. Generated text gets a light check before it’s shown, and is withheld if it falls into a category above.
We log the verdict, the category and the time, not the instruction text. People at LoreClerk look at your content only when you report it, it is reported to us, or an automated check flags it for review.
4. Reporting
Report content that breaks this policy, including something you came across as a beta reader or through a shared link, to [email protected]. Include the link or book title, what is wrong, and your contact email. You don’t need an account to report.
Rights holders can send copyright notices to the same address with the work, the infringing content, and a statement of good faith.
5. Response times
We acknowledge reports within 2 business days. Content involving minors, real-world threats or non-consensual intimate content is handled within 24 hours. Other reports are decided within 7 days, and we tell the reporter the outcome.
6. Enforcement
Depending on how serious it is and whether it repeats: a warning; removing the content or turning off sharing for it; restricting AI features; suspending the account; closing it permanently. CSAM and credible threats lead to immediate closure and a report to the authorities.
A suspended or closed account can export its own lawful writing first, except where the law prevents it. Credits and fees for a period closed for a serious breach aren’t refunded.
7. Appeals
If you think we got it wrong, reply to our notice or write to [email protected] within 30 days. Someone who wasn’t involved in the first decision reviews it and answers within 14 days.
8. Changes and contact
We update this policy as the law and our tools change, with the date above. Questions: [email protected]. Reports: [email protected].
